Dental Care for Kids
A proper dental hygiene is important for kids so that
their tooth stay in good shape even when they get old. Babies need to have
their teeth cleaned as well so that it wouldn't build up infections. Since
they’re prone to thrush (a fungal infection can frequently be seen around the
mouth). This infection develops when babies suck feeding bottles, pacifiers or
perhaps during breastfeeding. You can run a clean wet washcloth over their gums
just to clear away those harmful bacteria.
When they reach the age of three, kids develop their
first group of milk teeth. You could start off your son or daughter on a normal
brushing schedule even at that early age. Use a toothbrush according to your
kid’s age. Stay away from toothpaste that is filled with fluoride. You could
start making your son or daughter use fluoride toothpaste once they learn not
to swallow toothpaste while brushing their teeth.
Teach your kids the right method of brushing and
flossing. Nearly all kids like brushing their teeth independently so go on and
allow them to take action. But, be sure you first totally eliminate the plaque
and then let them brush independently. Brush your kid's teeth twice each day
till the age of six, kids needs help with cleaning their teeth because their
controls aren't fully developed. If you’re sure that your son or daughter can
clean their teeth by themselves, use a stopwatch to check on that your kid is
brushing for at least 2 minutes.
After the kid has done brushing his teeth, check it
to see if they’ve been brushed thoroughly. Do not forget to show your gratitude
if they did a good job. In case you find a small piece of food sticking to his
teeth, brush the area again and show your kid where they missed out while
brushing.
When your kid starts brushing independently do a time
to time checking to see if there are any signs of plaque. Take your son or
daughter for a regular visit to a dentist and discuss any teeth or gum related
inquiries you might have. Your dentist will be willing to show the proper way
of brushing and flossing regime to your son or daughter. He might also offer
advice on what is the simplest way for your kid’s teeth to stay in good shape.
